Assessments and Grading Systems
The Sycamore divides its academic year into three terms, assessing student progress through daily activities and formative and summative assessments, in line with the DepEd-prescribed grading system and transmutation table.
The Sycamore's Academic Evaluation System
The Sycamore’s detailed approach to assessing student progress. We adhere to the Department of Education’s grading standards and procedures.
- The academic year is divided into three (3) terms. Daily class activities and regular assessments measure students’ academic progress. The Sycamore relies on daily performance and formative and summative assessments to measure students’ academic progress.
- Formative Assessments are daily planned activities used to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback. Formative assessments can be done in the form of Written Works and Performance Tasks.
- To measure the students’ knowledge, understanding, skill, and application of the subject matter, topic and unit Summative Assessments are given in the form of Written Works and Performance Tasks as well.
- The Sycamore complies with the DepEd-prescribed grading system. All activities will be graded in percentage, with ceiling grade of 100% (except for late submissions and other special considerations), and base grade of 0%. However, final scores in the official report card follow the DepEd Transmutation Table, which has a base grade of 60%. Passing grade for all activities, as well as final grades, is 60% raw percentage (DepEd-transmuted to 75%).
- The Sycamore follows a weighted average system of grading. Grades are computed based on the following weights according to the latest DepEd Grading System for Major Subjects:
- Meanwhile, for Minor Subjects, academic grades are not computed from individual scores for assessments; rather, students are given an overall score per term, 70% of which is from Performance, and 30% is from Writing Skills, as is consistent with the DepEd recommendations as well. For a complete breakdown of the criteria for this grading system, see Section II-C, Article 2.a. of the Hybrid Learning Handbook, ver. 2023.
